¿Cómo enseñas acerca de los sustantivos en tu clase? Yo siempre me divierto mucho cuando aprendemos de los sustantivos. Es un tema muy importante pero fácil de entender para la mayoría de los niños.

Decidí introducir el tema de los sustantivos con uno de mis libros favoritos, El conejito Knuffle. Es el libro PERFECTO para hablar de los sustantivos porque tiene muchísimos ejemplos. Mientras leíamos dejé que los niños mencionaran los sustantivos que veían. 

Después creamos esta ayuda visual juntos y clasificamos cada sustantivo en la categoría correcta. 

Después los estudiantes regresaron a sus mesas para crear una ayuda visual y pegarla en su cuaderno.

Al día siguiente trabajamos utilizando esta divertida actividad donde los niños pudieron dibujar su propio sustantivo para cada categoría.

Sustantivos - Nouns in Spanish

How do you teach about nouns in your classroom? I always have so much fun teaching this skill. It's such an important skill for students to master and it's easy for students to understand.

We started by reading one of my favorite books El Conejito Knuffle. Let me tell you, this book is PERFECT to teach nouns for the first time. I allowed students to point out any nouns they found while we read. 

Then we created this easy anchor chart and students sorted each noun in the right category. 

Students went on to color their own anchor chart to include in their journals. 

The next day students used this sheet to draw their own noun for each category.

Mi maestra es un monstruo - ¡Vamos a leer!

When I was teaching second and third grade (and even now that I teach Kinder) it was difficult for my students to realize on their own that sometimes the feelings of a character might change throughout the story.

I received this book in my Booklandia order last month and I immediately realized this cute book was perfect to teach that skill.

It begins with a little boy telling us his teacher is a monster!

One day, he has a shocking experience! He runs into his teacher at the park.

After a series of events his feelings about his teacher begin changing <3

And the perspective he had about his teacher changes as well...

You can use this FREEBIE with this book to teach how a character's feelings change in a story.

Vamos a Leer! Los pingüinos adoran los colores

Hola! What I'm about to show you is one of the CUTEST read alouds EVER!!!! I feel in love with this book as soon as I saw the cover. Once I read the story I knew I had to have it. Los pingüinos adoran los colores is perfect for the first week of kindergarten. I love how colorful it is (obviously). It's simple to read, the images are absolutely ADORABLE, and it will allow me to go over a very important lesson in a dual language classroom: COLORS!!!

When I taught dual language kindergarten for the first time, I quickly learned I was very mistaken to assume all my kids knew their colors. For some it was easy to recognize them, but others (specially my non-Spanish speakers) needed some extra help. I decided then and there a lesson on colors the first day/week of kindergarten is a MUST, and it's even more important in a dual language setting. \

This year I will use this cute story to review colors, my color posters in Spanish, and the FREEBIE at the end of this post. 

The story is basically about 6 penguins who want to surprise their mom and they decide to use paint to create a lil something for her...and of course... they end up making a huge mess (momma penguin doesn't seem to mind though)

End of Year Poem

Summer is finally here and I'm enjoying some relaxing time with my baby. 

Since I know a lot of you are still in school I wanted to share with you the poem I attached to my students end of the year gifts. 

For their end of the year gifts, my partner and I deduced to give each student a hula-hoop and a jump rope. Since we were planning for 40 children we needed to be mindful about our budget. I found these jump ropes that cost less than $1 a piece and they were pretty good quality. We found our hula-hoops at Dollar Tree. They have different designs and sizes. 

We also attached this end of the year poem.

First Week Fun

We survived the first week...let me rephrase that...I survived the first week! Students seemed to enjoy it very much.

We have been going over our rituals and routines and they seem to be getting better at it, as long as we keep practicing they will become masters in no time. What seemed hard to accomplish on the first day was a piece of cake by Friday!

We started our week by reading The Kissing Hand - Un beso en mi mano. This is one of the sweetest read alouds out there. Students can connect to it right away and it gets them talking about their feelings...great way to start getting to know each other!

Then we went over crayon sharing expectations and did our first coloring activity of the year! I plan on saving these to put in their portfolios at the end of the year. I know parents will love to see how their kids coloring has changed.

Winter Fun

First things first..I want to show you some of the fun I'm planning for my kids this month. See... I did this activity with my tutoring students last month and they loved it so much I decided to do it again with my whole class on Valentine's day. You will need the More M&Ms Math book and lots of M&Ms... 

 

The book suggests that you use the individual baggies but I decided to buy the party size bag and create my own baggies (cheaper).

This book is just awesome cause students get to review SO MANY SKILLS at once!!

 

We graphed, multiplied, divided, talked about even, odd, least and greatest. 

It has many rhyming phrases (not pictured) and the kids favorite part was that it allows them to eat some m&ms throughout the book! FUN FUN!!!

This activity will be perfect for Valentine's Day!!

Fall is HERE!!!

Fall is HERE!! Fall is HERE!!! 

If you live in Texas like me and you're still dealing with 90+ degree weather don't worry because FALL IS HERE!! and soon very soon we will be enjoying the awesome weather as well...

I'm super excited to be joining a group of awesome bloggers to bring you the best of the best of FALL!!! Make sure you go through all the blog hop so you can find a ton of free resources to use in your classroom this season :) 

Fall is by far my favorite season...why you ask? No, it's not cause of the pumpkin everything...I really don't like anything pumpkin flavored or scented (please don't hate me and keep on reading haha). 

I love fall for so many reasons! Every year I enjoy it even more and here's why:

1. Baking!! 

If you know me you know how much I love baking! I wish I had more time to bake and Fall is just an excellent excuse to do it. I have taken lessons and sometimes is what I do to relax. 

2. Scarves

I'll admit it (just not to my husband)... I'm addicted to scarves. Last time I counted I had 50+. I'm always looking for new combinations and different ways to tie them. It makes me so sad to see them just hanging in my closet all summer! I'm ready to start wearing them again.

3. School

Fall is my favorite in school as well. I just love the energy that students and teachers bring! I especially enjoy that by this time I've had enough time to get to know my students and we are starting to build relationships. 

This week my class will be working on 3-digit addition with regrouping. I'm trying my best to get my students excited about this tough challenging topic. I created this resource to help them practice addition skills while at the same time review the previous skills that we have learned this year! 

I have included a sheet in English and Spanish so everyone can use it! Remember that if you don't teach in Spanish you can simply choose the pages you wish to print.

Birthdays

Confession time: Im the terrible when it comes to remembering my students' birthdays. Every year I have the good intention of doing something special for my kids but I always forget or realize there is no time... sound familiar? This year I promised I would not let that happen, especially since I know that many of my kids are not celebrated at home.  

I created birthday bags for each of my kids. I knew I would have to come up with something budget friendly since I have 20+ kids and it can get expensive!! I went to the dollar store and found this:

 I thought they were perfect! 10 bags for a dollar??? I'll take them! 

Then I went on to the fun (but hardest) part... finding treats. Of course, my heart wanted to get different things but my wallet wasn't so sure...

Luckily I found some HAPPY BIRTHDAY pencils at Target for $1.

 These I think were the "most expensive" items I bought. They were a dollar yes, but it only had 6/pack. I brought them anyway! My kids love them!

 Some erasers from Dollar Tree 12 for $1 is a great deal! 

 Then I went to the party section and found these awesome sticker boxes!! 

Every bag also included Smarties

 I created some homework passes to include in there as well. I wish I could have printed them in colored paper. I was in the middle of packing to move into our new house (yay!!) and my paper was packed away! They still turned out super cute!
