Uno de mis temas favoritos cada año es Martin Luther King Jr.
Desde la primera vez que escuché su historia cuando estaba en la primaria me impactó. Siempre es una de las unidades que más disfruto enseñar.

Te cuento un poco de lo que haremos en mi salón.

Juntos haremos una tabla de anclaje como esta de lo que sabemos, lo que queremos saber y después platicaremos de lo que aprendimos.

Leemos varios libros acerca de su vida. Estos son los que más me gustan.

Lo que siempre me aseguro de hacer (porque es lo que más les gusta siempre) son las hojas de cuaderno interactivo.

Platicamos acerca de su discurso. Y escribimos de nuestro sueño.

Sustantivos

¿Cómo enseñas acerca de los sustantivos en tu clase? Yo siempre me divierto mucho cuando aprendemos de los sustantivos. Es un tema muy importante pero fácil de entender para la mayoría de los niños.

Decidí introducir el tema de los sustantivos con uno de mis libros favoritos, El conejito Knuffle. Es el libro PERFECTO para hablar de los sustantivos porque tiene muchísimos ejemplos. Mientras leíamos dejé que los niños mencionaran los sustantivos que veían. 

Después creamos esta ayuda visual juntos y clasificamos cada sustantivo en la categoría correcta. 

Después los estudiantes regresaron a sus mesas para crear una ayuda visual y pegarla en su cuaderno.

Al día siguiente trabajamos utilizando esta divertida actividad donde los niños pudieron dibujar su propio sustantivo para cada categoría.

Sustantivos - Nouns in Spanish

How do you teach about nouns in your classroom? I always have so much fun teaching this skill. It's such an important skill for students to master and it's easy for students to understand.

We started by reading one of my favorite books El Conejito Knuffle. Let me tell you, this book is PERFECT to teach nouns for the first time. I allowed students to point out any nouns they found while we read. 

Then we created this easy anchor chart and students sorted each noun in the right category. 

Students went on to color their own anchor chart to include in their journals. 

The next day students used this sheet to draw their own noun for each category.

Interactive Notebooks

Do you use interactive notebooks in your classroom? I'm sure you have seen them... they're all over Pinterest. If you haven't, I would love to introduce them to you...

Interactive notebooks have changed my classroom and my teaching. I love the idea of introducing my kiddos to a concept and allowing them to take ownership of their learning. The best part is that the more you use them, the more independent kids become.

Im not going to lie to you, the first time using interactive notebooks got a little crazy but that's ok!

I try to do interactive notebook entries as much as I can, but.... if I don't get to it I just stick them in a center!

I usually start with the most basic form of entry I can find like this one:

I love it because it's simple and to the point. Color. Cut. Paste. Perfect to survive the Monday craziness (and of course) introduce a letter. 

If you're considering using these beauties in your classroom, I EXTREMELY recommend using interactive notebook vocabulary: tabs, corners, fold, etc...get your kids used to these words and they'll be super used to them in no time! 

At the beginning of the year, my students had the hardest time putting these tabs together, now they can do them with their eyes closed!!! ok, I might have exaggerated a little;)...

I usually leave the "more fun" pages for us to do on Fridays. They are always looking forward to the activities that are a little more challenging and fun...

My favorite part? I can actually use these as quick assessments that I know my kids will actually enjoy!
